Angry Allow GW to be played without internet (single-player)

This IS crazy, but it needs this.

Guild Wars 1 needs a sort of single player, and since I see the servers will be shutting down due to Guild Wars 2, due to very low player-count.
And yes, yes, they said they wouldn't shut down the servers after Guild Wars 2 but they will eventually. And considering I got the Guild Wars Trilogy 2 days ago, I've got so much to do in this game. I had Guild Wars about 5 years ago, compared to now, Guild Wars fate isn't looking that great in this time.

Getting stuff done with other people is alot harder then it was years back. I find myself playing this game solo anyway, if most new players who buy this game are going to be doing everything solo, why don't they make a single-player update for when the servers eventually give over? So it doesn't feel like we're wasting our time!

I don't even feel like playing this game at this point in time, knowing that anything I accomplish will soon be undone, and even with them saying that the servers will still be running, do they know exactly how many people will still be playing it?
By making a single-player update it feels like I'm not wasting my time!

There's heroes and henchmen for that. Heroes are even allowed in elite areas.

Anyways, the servers will stay up for as long as people play. And there's new players every day, so I wouldn't worry much.

......So does that mean that because I've been playing by myself, but with heroes, that I've been playing multiplayer?

Heroes and henches, man.

You expect to be able to take on EVERYTHING with SoS?

The game is balanced for a full party, they are not going to scrap everything, change the mechanics of the whole pve and pvp world, and totally screw over everyone that still do play it.

Especially when it is this close to gw2 release. They will not spend the resources, time, and energy to an update that might make potential gw2 players see them as unpredictable and stupid.

They did add a single-player update over a year ago (at 3rd March 2011 to be exact)

Depends on how many people will stay, when gw2 is released, I really do hope the servers stay up for as long as possible, I want to be able to play this game for quite a while

I refer to a single player update for when the servers go down, we would still be able to play. c:

The server won't go down in the near future. I am quite sure we will get a warning rather long before they go down aswell.

As pretty much already stated, heroes or hench are really your best bet unless you're solo farming. SoS is pretty much the standard for that. There are others, though. Warriors can solo a good bit(mind you nothing extrodinarially profitable that i can recall offhand, then again pve was never my forte

OP is talking about internet-depedance not gameplay.
Gameplay is fully single-player accessible which gave the game new life (7 hero update)

The character files are on the server
- meaning you can log in anywhere.
- They are not easy to exploit/hack.
- they are easily updated.
- they arn't easily made to be "single player" characters (without internet)

Good news is:
-GW works amazingly smooth on 56k internet heros only( when my cap is out).
-The amount of server space/ resources GW1 world takes is minimal when compared to the big farm they will have for GW2.
-People buying GW2 should = GW1 servers staying up longer, as that is the revenue.

PS: less people playing means, less people draining server resources.

I think OP meant "single player" as opposed to "multiplayer" -> implying ONLINE multiplayer mode.

Request worded incorrectly aside, I believe what's being suggested here is some form of off-line play because he/she fears the shutdown as soon as GW2 comes out.

Nothing new then...

Also, i just started a Ranger for an old school proph playthrough. Rangers from what im seeing are by far the most versatile class, capable of spears, daggers, swords, hammers, and probably axes(lets not forget bows eh) with ALOT of survival skills(blocking stances, troll unguent, etc etc) My Ranger has really revived my interest in GW1(seeing as how ive played pretty much nothing but mes for the past 6 years) If you don't have one, try it out. May not be exactly what you're looking for, but they're definately a blast in PvE and PvP both

They aren't going to just take the servers down once GW2 goes live.. so relax. Play the game.

I suspect it will remain online for years to come.

I dont undestand why some people starts to think that the gw1 is going to close when gw2 goes live... thats bs.

You even can work on your HOM after gw2 gets live... and probably for many years.

when the game starts losing money they will start shutting down servers 1 by 1.

shouldn't take you more then 4 months to clock the game casually, you can do it in a week if you are a freak.

MMOs "die" and get shut down, and you lose all your hard work.

Kind of comes with the whole package. It sucks, but if ya had fun that's all that matters *shrug*

I doubt GW1 will die for a very long time though.

GW1 isn't really an MMO, more comparable to an instanced online RPG like Diablo II (which has offline single player). It would probably take some dev work but not impossible like WoW or other true-MMOs.

Makes me wonder what it would be like to play this game with absolutely zero lag.

I'm pretty sure the "single-player" mode has been addressed and found defunct via heroes and henchmen.

If it was just the wording that was wrong, could we get the OP to re-word it?

Apologies for my bad wording, I made this thread quite late at night when not really concentrating
"OP is talking about internet-depedance not gameplay."
That is what I mean yes

4 months? I could play this game for years and feel like I'm not getting my moneys worth, If they decided to close servers when in the middle of that, I wouldn't be impressed

Yeah, again apologies, that is what I mean, except not "as soon as GW2 comes out." But later, which for when the time comes there should be a sort of "single player" opposed to multiplayer.
But then you could say that with any mmo really, but Guild Wars feels different

Ever think that maybe it'd be more appropriate to ask for a single-player version of GW1 when they actually announce that the game's servers are going to be taken down? As it stands, they've said they have no plans to take down the servers, and I can guarantee that they won't do it in the near future; GW2 is going to sell copies of GW1 to people who want HoM items (or who just want to see more of the early lore), surely enough people to cover bandwidth costs.
